Privacy Policy — Pixel & Popcorn

This is the privacy policy for Pixel & Popcorn, a small independent publication operated by Marcus Okafor out of Brooklyn, New York. I have tried to write this in plain English instead of legalese. If anything is unclear, write to me at hey@pixelandpopcorn.com and I will fix it.

What information this site collects

When you visit Pixel & Popcorn, your browser automatically sends some standard information to the web server. This is the same information sent to nearly every site on the internet. It includes your IP address, the kind of browser and device you are using, the page you arrived from, and the times of your visit. I use this information only in aggregate, to understand how many people are reading the site and which articles are getting traction.

If you sign up for the email newsletter, you provide an email address. That email is stored only for the purpose of sending you the newsletter, and you can unsubscribe by replying "Unsubscribe" to any issue. I do not sell, rent, or share email addresses with anyone, ever, for any reason.

If you write to me at the contact email above, your message is stored in my regular inbox. I read every message myself.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses a small number of cookies. Some are necessary for basic functionality. Others may be used by third-party services described below — primarily advertising services and a basic analytics tool, if enabled — to understand how the site is being used and to serve advertising.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Most modern browsers also offer a "do not track" preference, which this site honors to the extent technically possible. Disabling cookies will not break the site for you, although it may make some features behave less smoothly.

Third-party advertising

Pixel & Popcorn does not currently display advertising. Advertising, including advertising provided by Google AdSense, may be shown on this site only after the site is approved for such a program. Until then, no advertising claim on any page should be read as saying ads are already running.

Once advertising is approved and shown, Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies may allow it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings page. You may also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info or, for users in the European Union, youronlinechoices.eu.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site or to other websites. I do not control these third-party cookies, and their use is governed by the privacy policies of the relevant vendors.

Analytics

This site may use a basic analytics tool to count visits and identify the most-read articles. The data collected is anonymous and aggregated. I do not use analytics to identify individual readers, and I do not combine analytics data with any other personally identifying information. No analytics account identifier is published on this site.

Children's privacy

Pixel & Popcorn is intended for a general adult audience. The site does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided information to this site, please contact me and I will delete it promptly.

Your rights

If you are a resident of the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with data privacy laws granting specific rights, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information this site holds about you. The only personal information this site holds about most readers is, at most, an email address on the newsletter list. You can exercise any of these rights by writing to hey@pixelandpopcorn.com. I will respond within thirty days.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page along with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will be announced in the newsletter as well.
