About Pixel & Popcorn

Pixel & Popcorn

Pixel & Popcorn is a magazine I run out of a small apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, using a six-year-old laptop that I should probably replace. I started it in early 2024 because the big gaming and culture sites I'd been reading since I was a teenager had all gotten, somehow, simultaneously boring and shouty, and nobody I knew was writing the kind of pieces I wanted to read.

So this is one person, one laptop, one magazine about games, movies, and basketball. Loud opinions, stated plainly. Reviews that give a score and then explain it. Lists that commit to an order and expect to be argued with. Essays about streaming, delays, and the strange business of loving a hobby that keeps changing underneath you.

Everything here is personal commentary and opinion. I write about games I have actually played, films I have actually watched, and teams I have actually followed. When a piece is a review, it says so and gives a verdict. When it is an essay, it argues a point and leaves room for you to disagree. Disagreement is welcome; that is half the point of a list.

No sponsors, no affiliate links — today

As of this rebuild, Pixel & Popcorn carries no sponsored posts and no affiliate links. There are no paid placements in the articles, and I receive no commission or benefit from any link in an article. If that ever changes, this page and the relevant articles will say so plainly, with a disclosure, before anything is published — not after.

The weekly email, when it runs, is a manual email list, not an automated signup system. To subscribe, email hey@pixelandpopcorn.com with "Subscribe" in the subject line, and you will be added by hand. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying "Unsubscribe".
